York Performance Residency Goes Live and In Person!
July 6, 2023
July 2023 Letter From Judy
July 6, 2023

Last month we held our second Moms & Kids special visit. The visiting room at York CI was filled with excitement and love as children came together with their moms to participate in art activities and spend quality time together drawing and playing games.

The moms wrote some wonderful spoken word pieces during our pre-visit sessions, the theme for these sessions was Dreams and Aspirations. During the visit they performed several of the pieces for their family members—including some fun trips down memory lane when they shared what their dream jobs were when they were children themselves!

The visit also provided the opportunity for a new mom to the group to have their first photo together taken since her son was born 8 months ago—a very special moment for the two of them and their family.

The visit concluded with one of the moms reading Ani DeFranco’s beautiful story of individual power and collective responsibility, “The Knowing.” The children sat with their moms and took in the sweet yet powerful words and stunning illustrations.
