Three Unique Programs - One Extraordinary Organization!

Superb and challenging performances … incisive arts education … extraordinary justice-focused prison work

Bridging Boundaries Arts Intervention™

JDPP’s Bridging Boundaries Arts Intervention™ program began in 2005 at York Correctional Institution for women, and in 2016 expanded to include men at Cybulski Community Reintegration Center, a pre-release facility Teaching artists are teamed with social workers to lead inmates in individual and collaborative storytelling through dance and movement, autobiographical narratives, visual arts and song-making. Bridging Boundaries emphasizes rebuilding bonds between incarcerated parents and children; in 2009 JDPP added a Moms & Kids Weekend and a Dads & Kids outreach in 2016. Six Hartford elementary schools host Bridging Boundaries™ for students with an incarcerated parent.

Moving Matters!™

For over 20 years, JDPP’s Moving Matters!™ Program has explored movement and creative arts as tools for learning and personal growth. Underserved children in Hartford Public Schools improve language arts and interactive social skills while building community. Moving Matters! signature program at Parkville Community engages the entire school in a 12-week program culminating in a joyous performance with 450 students on Trinity College’s campus.

JDPP Ensemble

Since 1989, the JDPP Ensemble has produced 20 original full-evening works that introduce audiences to/confront audiences with Connecticut’s 17th century witchcraft trials, the phenomenon of slavery in a New England town and the experiences of contemporary women in prison. Each piece reclaims the voice of an experience that has been marginalized or suppressed, telling that story through powerful intersections of dance, theater and visual imagery.
