“Art and social justice are powerful allies, and this is as good an example as I’ve ever seen”
Known for its innovative fusion of dance, text, music, and visual design, the JDPP Ensemble delves into the darkness to discover the light, drawing audiences into worlds that illuminate understanding and reflection. The company’s award-winning work can be seen throughout New England in theaters, at colleges and universities, prisons, and inner-city schools. Its collaborative repertory has been performed in major cities across the United States and Europe.
She Speaks Her Peace
In this 90-minute compilation, JDPP leads audiences on a journey marked by 30 years of artistic milestones. It is a story about seeking justice, inspiring courage, and cultivating a more harmonious way of being. Signature repertory pieces such as Tub, Body Body, and Rains are re-envisioned alongside highlights from prison performances and newly staged work to create an unforgettable experience of dance, song, and spoken word. For information on bringing this piece to your venue, please contact Robyn Genzano, Director of Operations and Community Engagement, at 860-527-9800 x 9802.
(US) brings the artist’s eye to examine the fears and hopes of the American immigrant experience. The performance moves from Arrival, to Walls, and finally Sanctuary through dance, multimedia visuals, and a layered sound score that incorporates music, poetry, and voices from the immigrant community.
How It Is
In a powerful and moving mix of narrative, song and dance, How It Is humanizes the challenges of incarceration and reentry. Performed by the Ensemble with formerly incarcerated guest artists, this ambitious work is an outgrowth of JDPP’s work in two of Connecticut’s correctional institutions.
